TITLE
A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, endorsing and supporting the recommendations and findings for the Regionally Significant Routes for Safety and Mobility update study, which is being amended to include Maricopa's Regional Connectivity Plan. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Rapid growth which Pinal County experienced since 2000 made it clear that high capacity roadway corridors would need to be identified and preserved to handle greatly increased traffic which population projections showed would occur in the region. The Regionally Significant Routes for Safety and Mobility study was launched in approximately 2006 with the goal of identifying all needed high capacity roadways throughout the county. This study was successfully concluded and formally adopted by Maricopa City Council in September 2007.
Maricopa Association Of Governments (MAG) conducted the Hidden Valley Framework study soon after, validating and uploading the corridors that the RSRSM study had identified for preservation. The MAG Hidden Valley Framework Study was approved by MAG Regional Council in September 2009. The high capacity corridors identified in the RSRSM study and upheld in the MAG Hidden Valley Framework study serve as the framework for Maricopa’s Regional Connectivity Plan, which was successfully completed and adopted by City Council in August 2017.
Pinal County recently completed an update to the RSRSM study and now seeks City Council endorsement and approval. Maricopa also completed its own Regional Connectivity Plan during the same time frame, and this plan will soon be incorporated into the Pinal County RSRSM update. Thus, an endorsement and approval of the RSRSM update is an endorsement and approval of Maricopa’s own Regional Connectivity Plan, for the roadways affecting Maricopa.
