TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on authorizing Mayor Christian Price to sign the U.S. Census mapsheets and approving the maps for conducting a special census of the City of Maricopa. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
On April 7, 2015 the City of Maricopa City Council approved a Memorandum of Agreement with the United States Census Bureau to purchase a Special Census with instructions for it to be signed by the Highest Elected Official (HEO). On April 8, 2015, Mayor Christian Price, as the HEO, signed the Memorandum of Agreement.
On June 4, the City of Maricopa received boundary maps which represents the proposed boundaries of the upcoming special census. Maricopa staff followed U.S. Census instructions and reviewed the maps to determine that the mapsheets properly reflect the Special Census Area needed to be included in the Maricopa special census for an accurate count. The instructions included with the mapsheets and the instructions printed on the mapsheets themselves indicate that the mapsheets must be signed by "the same person who signed the Memorandum of Agreement". In Maricopa's case, this would be Mayor Christian Price. Approval of this item by Council will authorize Mayor Christion Price to sign the mapsheets verifying the Special Census Area for the City of Maricopa
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Mayor and City Council authorize Mayor Christian Price to sign the U.S. Census mapsheets verifying the proper Special Census Area and approve the maps for conducting a Special Census of the City of Maricopa.
