AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
At the June 5 City Council Meeting the City Council expressed a desire to see better utilization of the City’s boards, committees and commissions, and improved communication between the boards, committees and commissions and the City Council.

On June 19 Maricopa City Council approved the creation of a Council Task Force to review the role of the City of Maricopa’s board, committees and commissions and to recommend changes including possible revisions to the City Council’s Policy on Boards, Committees and Commissions. Mayor Price appointed himself, Councilwoman Gusse, and Councilmember Kimball to serve on this Boards, Commission, and Committees Task Force or (BCC Task Force).

The BCC Task Force met on the evening of July 5 and then again on July 19. All members of the various committees were invited (Transportation, Heritage District, Planning & Zoning, Board of Adjustments, and Parks, Recreation, and Libraries). We averaged more than a dozen attendees at each meeting, with all groups represented.

At the conclusion of the second meeting, the BCC Task Force reached a consensus on recommendations for changes to the City Council’s Policy on Boards, Committees, and Commissions. The BCC Task Force requested these changes be presented to the full Council for discussion and possible action in the form of an ordinance that would convert the policy to City Code.

Ordinance language can be found in "Ordinance" attachment.
Summary of recommended changes to Section 1, Standing Committees, can be found in the "Table 1" attachment.
