TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall hear public comment on the City’s primary property tax levy for Fiscal Year 19-20. This item will be presented by Angele Ozoemelam.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

Consistent with Title 42 of the Arizona Revised Statutes, the City of Maricopa is holding a public hearing at which any taxpayer can appear before the Mayor and City Council to comment on the primary property tax levy for Fiscal Year 2019-2020 (FY19-20) prior to formal adoption. Adoption of the primary property tax is scheduled for July 16, 2019.

In compliance with section 42-17107, Arizona Revised Statutes, City of Maricopa is notifying its property taxpayers of City of Maricopa's intention to raise its primary property taxes over last year's level. City of Maricopa is proposing an increase in the primary property taxes of $557,852 or 4.45%.   For example, the proposed tax increase will cause City of Maricopa's primary property taxes on a $100,000 home to  be $478.45.  Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes that would be owed on a $100,000 home would have been $458.08.

This proposed increase is exclusive of increased primary property taxes received from new construction. The increase is also exclusive of any changes that may occur from property tax levies for voter approved bonded indebtedness or budget and tax overrides.

This item will be presented by Angele Ozoemelam, Financial Services Manager.
