TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action to cancel or reschedule the January 2, 2013 City Council regular and work session meetings. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City of Maricopa holds Regular Council Meetings on the "first and third Tuesday of each month" as per Maricopa City Code Sec. 2-71. The first Tuesday of the month in January 2013 is January 1, which is New Years Day, a legal holiday. City code states that "when the day fixed for any regular meeting of the council falls upon a day designated by law as a legal holiday, such meeting shall be held at the same hour on the next succeeding day not a holiday" (Sec. 2-71). Therefore, based on City code, the regularly-scheduled January 1, 2013 meeting will automatically be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 (pending availability of a location).
This agenda item is for Council to discuss and possibly cancel or reschedule the January 2, 2013 City Council regular and work session meetings.
Due to the holidays, activity during this timeframe is typically reduced. For planning purposes, staff already accounted for the possibility that the first meeting in January 2013 would be canceled, therefore nothing is currently scheduled for the January 2 meeting agenda. Based on this lack of need, staff believes it is not necessary to reschedule the January 2 meeting and is recommending that Council cancel the January 2, 2013 meeting.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council cancel the January 2, 2013 City Council regular and work session meetings.
