TITLE
A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, designating the City's authorized representative for purposes of the grant received from the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (AzDEMA) for the Desert Sunrise High School Box Culvert project. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Currently floodwaters routinely overtop Murphy Road, just north of Farrell Road, leading to closures of the roadway and creating a hazardous condition. Much of the traffic in the area is due to the Desert Sunrise High School located just south of this intersection. A box culvert is proposed at this location that will help mitigate the hazard. The design plans for the project are complete but we are awaiting approval from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation before the project can be constructed. The $1,383,069 grant was awarded December 6, 2024 and a project kickoff meeting was held on January 22, 2025. The project is on hold pending final written approval from FEMA's department of Environmental and Historic Preservation (EHP). According to AzDEMA, this approval should be forthcoming and they have requested that the City designate an authorized representative for the purpose of grant administration. The City's project lead on this project is Storm Water Systems Manager Dan Frank, and he is being recommended as the authorized representative in dealing with the grant.
