TITLE
The Mayor and Council shall discuss and possibly take action to accept a grant award of $27,746 and enter into contract with the Arizona Department of Homeland Security for said grant. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The AZ Department of Homeland Security funding is divided between regions within the State. The City of Maricopa is part of the Eastern Region Advisory Council (ERAC). The ERAC includes Pinal, Gila, Greenlee, and Graham Counties. The ERAC is the body that reviews and recommends funding applications for all entities within their region. Typically, the ERAC receives around $400,000 total to divide between the projects funded.

Maricopa Police Department on March 3rd, 2016 submitted an application to the AZ Department of Homeland Security requesting 15 radios at a total cost of $73,110. These radios would provide a cache of radios for the EOC at the Copper Sky Substation and increase our interoperability with other agencies throughout the region.

At the March 31, 2016 ERAC meeting, ERAC made approval recommendations of the submitted applications for FY16 funding. Unfortunately, MPD’s application was not selected for funding at this time, but was marked as the number one priority for any funds available if reallocation was needed.

At the August 11th, 2016 ERAC meeting, the Council discussed the reallocation of available funds. MPD being the number one priority was selected as the project to receive the funding available for reallocation. This resulted in $27,746 being allocated and awarded to MPD.

This item will be presented by Chief Stahl and/or TJ Hansell, Grants Coordinator.
