TITLE
The Mayor and City Council will receive a presentation on the City's event strategy and an update on Community Events, Signature Events, and Event Tourism initiatives. Presentation and Discussion only.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The Communications and Cultural Services Director will provide Mayor and Council with an overview of the City's event strategy and an update on current initiatives across the department's three event categories: Community Events, Signature Events, and Event Tourism.
As part of the presentation, staff will discuss efforts to expand community engagement opportunities throughout the year. This includes plans to increase arts, culture, entertainment, and community programming opportunities with a series of events designed to align with emerging community-led First Friday initiative.
Within the Signature Events category, staff will discuss enhancements to the City's annual event portfolio, including the exploration of reintroducing Salsa Fest as part of this year's Stagecoach Days celebration. The addition would bring back a popular community tradition while complementing the event's focus on celebrating Maricopa's heritage and culture.
Finally, staff will provide a three-year review of the City's Event Tourism strategy through an update on Wild West Music Fest. The presentation will review progress toward the goals established by Council to become a destination City, including:
• Attracting visitors
• Generating economic activity
• Increasing Maricopa's visibility throughout the region
• Enhancing quality of life for residents
• Creating opportunities for local businesses and community organizations.
