TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall hear a presentation providing an overview of the Transit Study kick-off. Discussion only.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTIONÂ
The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), our Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), is overseeing a new transit study for the City of Maricopa. The City is now a direct recipient under the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) 5307 program, rather than receiving funds through the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) under the 5311 program. Kimley-Horn has been selected as the consultant to conduct the study.
Both ADOT and the FTA have indicated that a new study is necessary, as the previous study from 2018 is outdated. A current transit study is required to support any planned service changes, identify funding priorities, and strengthen future grant applications. Public involvement will be a key part of the process. The study has been awarded through the 5307 grant program and will take approximately 15 months to complete. A follow-up presentation to the Mayor and City Council will be scheduled upon its conclusion.
As part of this study, Kimley-Horn will conduct a service analysis of Maricopa Express Transit (MET) to help the City implement system improvements that will better meet the needs of the community.
Kimley-Horn and MAG will present an overview of the Transit Study process. This presentation will go over:
