TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action to accept a grant award from the Ak-Chin Indian Community 12% Granta Program for Electronic Forensics in the amount of $40,000 for the Maricopa Police Department. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
In April 2017 Ak-Chin Indian Community announced grant guidelines and requests for proposals for their 12% Grant Program. Guidelines stipulated applications should request frunding only for programs or services that benefit the general public. Examples of eligible programs included but were not limited to; programs or services in the area of education, public safety, health, environment, promotion of commerce and economic and community development.
In July 2017 the City of Maricopa Police Department submitted a grant application for Electronic Forensics. The goal of the program is incorporating advanced investigative techniques via an expansion of the forensic investigations and the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) program. The funds will be used for a forensic investigative software platform for personal computers, upgrate current forensic doftware for celluar phones and for overtime funding to traine employees on the UAS program. Access to the technology will allow the officers and investigators to elevate their abilities regarding forensic investigations.
In November 2017 the grant was awarded in the amount of $40,000. There is no matching funds requirement.

CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATION
The City Manager recommends the Mayor and City Council take action to accept a grant award from the Ak-Chin Indian Community 12% Grants Program for Electronic Forensics in the amount of $40,000 for the Maricopa Police Department.
