AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
In March 2025, the City of Maricopa Police Department submitted a grant application to the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) as part of its annual grant funding cycle. On August 27, 2025, the department was notified of a recommendation for approval in the amount of $74,530. The award provides funding for the purchase of one (1) Traffic Division Motorcycle and one (1) Polaris Side-by-Side utility vehicle.
This grant aligns with the Gila River Indian Community’s Public Safety funding priority and directly supports the City’s strategic objective of enhancing community safety. The addition of specialized equipment will:
Expand operational capability: The Polaris Side-by-Side provides critical access to off-road, rural, and hard-to-reach areas where standard patrol vehicles cannot operate effectively. This improves emergency response and search-and-rescue capacity.
Enhance traffic enforcement: The Traffic Division motorcycle will strengthen traffic safety initiatives by improving mobility, visibility, and enforcement on congested roadways and during special events.
Support proactive safety measures: Both vehicles enhance the department’s ability to respond quickly to incidents, reduce roadway collisions, and improve safety for residents and visitors.
Leverage grant resources: Securing external funding reduces the need for General Fund expenditures while delivering equipment that provides immediate operational value.
