TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on making appointments to the Maricopa Youth Council. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
On August 5, 2014 the Maricopa City Council voted to amend the Youth Council Guide, which is the governing document for the Maricopa Youth Council. Upon amendment, the selection process for the Youth Council now consists of each member of the Mayor and City Council having the right to appoint two teen representatives to serve on the Youth Council.
Through our recruitment process, fourteen eligible teens (ages 13-17) have applied for this year's term. The vision of the Youth Council is to be a diverse and knowledgeable group of teenagers who can provide insight to City leadership. Each member's unique insight is valuable in terms of connecting with the large base of youth they represent. Staff is eager to see this group flourish and connect with the community and City Council leadership. Appointing all fourteen interested applicants will have positive effects for years to come.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Mayor and Council appoint all fourteen eligible candidates to the Maricopa Youth Council.
