TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and take action to approve the addition of the Municipal Court Facility project to the FY22-23 Capital Improvement Plan for the design and construction of the infrastructure, building foundation and site improvements. Funding for the design and construction of the infrastructure, building foundation and site improvements will be drawn from the Public Market Project (Project #38092) which is included in this year’s budget. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
City Council, on September 6, 2022, authorized the City Manager to take the necessary steps to establish a stand-alone municipal court. The construction of a municipal court facility is being presented with this action tonight. Staff has explored various court facilities in similar sized communities as Maricopa to determine appropriate facility needs for this new building.

The proposed site is located immediately east of City Hall and north of the existing Police Department. The new facility will provide an approximate 6,000 square foot building. The building will include a courtroom, offices, staff work areas, kitchenette, jury room, and restrooms. The lobby will provide for security staff, seating and ballistic amenities required for this facility. The court room will provide a judge’s bench, court clerk area, jury and witness areas, space for attorneys and defendants and a seating gallery for the public. The site improvements shall include staff and visitor parking, landscape, hardscape and perimeter security fencing. The design and construction phase will take approximately 14 months to complete. The project is expected to be completed by January 2024.
