TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approval of an Award of Contract with Visus Engineering Construction, Inc. for construction related to the widening of Honeycutt Road between Porter and White & Parker Roads. This contract, in an amount not to exceed $1,572,383.21, will be paid from Transportation DIF, Transportation, Street Projects-Capital, Honeycutt Road at 7 Ranches South (32444146-67750-35020), and is in compliance with City of Maricopa Purchasing Code Article IV, Section 3-215 "Bidding Procedure." Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Honeycutt Road is a major east-west arterial street which currently narrows from four lanes to two from Porter Road east. This project to widen Honeycutt Road to four lanes between Porter Road and White & Parker Road is part of a settlement agreement with MA Maricopa, LLC; it was approved by City Council, and programmed in the Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal year 2014-2015.
Upon project completion, Honeycutt Road will have four travel lanes from approximately Pershing Street east to White & Parker Road, alleviating traffic congestion during peak travel times. The project will also improve storm drainage issues in the area.
Staff recommends Bid Alternative B, which represents a value engineering effort by the engineer and City staff. Alternative B will result in a cost savings of approximately 4% to the construction contract. The requested not-to-exceed amount of $1,572,383.21 is comprised of $1,367,289.75 (Bid Alternative B) plus $205,093.46 (15% contingency).
