AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The Mayor and City Council have the authority to establish the compensation package of the Mayor and City Council members as long as it doesn't become effective until the seating of the next City Council. The next City Council will be seated at the June 5, 2012 Regular City Council meeting.
Staff researched the Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and Councilmember salaries of Arizona cities with populations of 30,000-65,000. The results are as follows:

Based on the above information, on average, the Mayor’s compensation is 53% higher than Councilmembers’ compensation. Currently, in the City of Maricopa, the Mayor is compensated $10,000 annually and the Vice-Mayor and City Councilmembers are compensated $7,500 annually. In Maricopa, the Mayor earns 33% more than the Councilmembers.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of Resolution 12-08 with the compensation package of Council’s choosing.
