AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The City Council shall discuss and possibly approve a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Mesa for the purpose of attending joint law enforcement training. The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is to set the provisions under which the City of Mesa and the City of Maricopa will operate to provide police recruit academy training, hosted by the City of Mesa Police Department. The Memorandum of Understanding provides that required training fees will be determined in a separate written agreement.  The City of Mesa will be authorized to produce and maintain academy training records for our employees who attend the Mesa Police Academy.  The City of Maricopa will provide the necessary training equipment and assistance with academy training.  The Memorandum of Understanding allows the Mesa Police Department the right to determine requirements and discipline as needed for City of Maricopa employees while they are attending the Mesa Police Academy.

The Memorandum of Understanding will become effective the date it is approved. The agreement shall automatically renew for additional five (5) year terms under the same terms and conditions, including any adopted amendments in effect at the time of renewal.
